Orchestra
Written for full orchestra, this piece takes the listener on a journey out in the deep blue of the ocean. The piece opens with the wide expanse of water without any semblance of land in sight. The opening duet between the bassoon and horn create a sense of wonder and awe before being taken underwater. As the piece dives deeper, the trumpets and trombones begin to sound a warning call. The piece takes a violent turn as the peaceful open waters are churned up by an approaching storm. The cataclysm grows until the full force of the sea is railing against the listener. It ends just as it began, going from the deep ocean to the shallow waters of a coral reef. The various instruments take on different schools of fish darting in an out of the ever present coral in the violins before the opening expanse returns, this time hazier, and more dreamlike. The piece finishes with a quiet pizzicato in the basses as the memory of the ocean fades from sight.
